Cool wedding planning resources I made

New resource: Grief during wedding planning.

A consulting client and I recently talked about how to honor her dad’s death. Our conversation inspired me to write this.

My most-read story for the year so far?

Advice on what to do if you’re not hiring a DJ.

I did four consulting calls last month.

Two for weddings out of state — Virginia and Massachusetts — and two for weddings with TBD Oregon venues. Learn more about this one-hour service.

“As a wedding photographer, I’ve worked with many planners, but working with Beth was truly a breath of fresh air.”

It means a lot when coworkers feel supported by my work.

Late winter feels. With spring blooms, too.

Cool wedding planning resources other people made

The Knot’s annual study is out.

It’s a survey of 10K couples who got married in 2025. While imperfect, it’s also the best (only?) snapshot of my industry that I’m aware of.

Here’s the PDF report; here’s the press release.

A few highlights:

  • $292: average cost per guest (page 5)

  • 7 hours: average time couples spent planning their wedding per week (page 9)

  • $34K: average cost of a wedding (page 15)

Feel like talking about wedding clothing?

A student at Columbia University recently contacted me about a research project exploring how brides and bridesmaids make decisions around dress shopping. If you’re a recent bride, bridesmaid, or wedding planner who’s open to sharing your own experience, reach out at kp3177@columbia.edu.

A Portland venue I like now offers elopements.

It’s $3,000 for two hours including 30 guests, an officiant, sparkling wine, cake, and flowers. Learn more.

Reminder: Seattle, there’s a new show near you.

It’s called the Sustainable Wedding Show and it’s next month.

Psst — Per my code of conduct, I don’t take kickbacks or other things of value for my referrals.

That just-married glow. You’ll get there.

Wedding vendors, this is for you

Wedding vendor meet-ups are happening. I’m hosting one in Portland next month. You might also enjoy the monthly newsletter I edit for vendors. Here’s March’s.
